Funding fee calculator

See what a funding rate means in USDT: what a long or short position pays or receives at each settlement, per day and over the time it is held.

Educational calculator with general formulas for linear, USDT-margined perpetual futures, without fees. Exchanges apply their own rules, and their figure is the one that counts. No investment advice.

Side

The position's value: quantity × entry price.

Positive: longs pay shorts. Negative: shorts pay longs.

Shows the funding as a share of the margin.

Result

The long position pays 1.00 USDT at each settlement.

Per day

Share of the margin
2.1%
How the number comes about
  1. Per settlement = 10000 × 0.01% = 1.00 USDT
  2. Settlements in 7 days = 7 × 24 ÷ 8 = 21
  3. Over the holding time = 21 × −1.00 USDT = −21.00 USDT

How the funding fee is calculated

  • Payment per settlement = position size × funding rate.
  • At a positive rate longs pay shorts; at a negative rate shorts pay longs.
  • Settlements in the holding time = holding time ÷ interval, counting completed intervals only.
  • As a share of the margin: the total ÷ (position size ÷ leverage). The same funding weighs more on the margin the higher the leverage.

What the formula leaves out

  • The rate changes at every settlement; the calculator holds it constant.
  • The position value moves with the mark price, and so does each payment.
  • Some exchanges cap the rate or settle at other intervals. The ZK Futures testnet settles every hour, at most 0.1% of the position value per settlement.
